How to brew Chinese tea?

Posted under chinese tea by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010

I have been sent some real chinese tea, from China…
It is from the top of the plant.
There are about 100 individual packets in the tins.
But when I add the whole packet to a cup of boiling water, and leave it for 3 mins, it tastes horrid.
Very bitter and woody.
Is there a special way to brew it, I am sure that I am making some major mistake, I don’t want to waste the gift by accident.
I can show photos if needed, please help.

It’s probably Oolong (Wu) Tea. If so it should be brewed at around 180F for Green Oolong (my fav) and up to 200F for Brown Oolong for about 30-50 seconds the first time to open the leaves. Often people dump the first batch because of bitterness, but I like it. Then you brew it for 1-3 minutes for the proper taste.

Quality Oolong can be used for 5-8 batches. Of course each will need a little more time steeping.

How long for multiple oolong tea steepings?

Posted under oolong tea by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010

How long is the brew time for multiple steepings.

Say for an oolong that I like it is 3 minutes, but for th second steeping how long is it? Shorter? Longer?

I know green tea is sometimes 30-40 seconds, but how long for oolong?

You might want to start with a shorter infusion around 1-1.5 minutes for the first infusion so you can get the most out of subsequent ones. There are some oolongs that can be steeped for less than 30 seconds and still give a very powerful brew. These can be steeped many times. For the following infusions though, a good rule of thumb is to increase the time by about 30 seconds for each one (this is true with basically every tea that can be steeped more than once). You should experiment with the times to find what tastes best to you.

Are there really benefits to Oolong tea?

Posted under oolong tea by admin on Monday 1 March 2010

I haven’t changed much at all about my life except perhaps I drinking oolong tea. It had a smokey scent to it, so I bought some because I enjoy tea. Its better than just hot water! : ). But ever since I started drinking it Ive felt very alive, and rejuvenated. I dont feel the same way I do if I drink coffee, so the caffeine intake is lower? Does it actually have benefits, or did my system suddenly cleanse? haha funny question I know : )

yes there are definitely benefits to drinking tea, any tea not just oolong, but if that’s the one you like, stick with it. it’s good for you!

Which chinese tea you prefer?

Posted under chinese tea by admin on Thursday 25 February 2010

I prefer Pu Erh, which do you guys prefer? if your into chinese tea that is
Yeah Jasmine tea is nice, i heard of oolong but never really seen or tried it.

Bai Ji Guan is a great Ooolong, and An Ji Bai Cha is a lovely green tea, both for every-day drinking,

I Iike Pu Erh, and drink a pot a day for the health benefits.

For indulgent choice? Aged Shui Hsien – we have a block that we bought last time we were in China that’s 40 years old. Now THAT is tea!

I really dont fight much but a group of bears approached me in my back yard so i decided to axe kick
ALL of them in the head, later i got a phone call from Jet Li saying that Wu Lang wanted revenge for dominating his family and so i have to meet him at the docks around 10:00pm, i was going to show up and simply do a FLYING KAMORA and end it so that i can go back to school being a regular kid until goku challenges me to a martial arts tournament in japan in which it will be postponed because RYU from street fighter is going to blow up all of Tokyo.

So the question is whats the best move to start with in a fight like that?

try taking on Chuck Norris

that should level the score to 25 – 10000000 in 1 round

Which books should I read?

Posted under wu li by admin on Friday 19 February 2010

I have to read a fiction and a non-fiction book for my AP Lit class.
Which would you recommend? and why (if you have the time to explain ^_^ )

One from this list (fiction):
__19th Century fiction__
Emma by Jane Austen
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Silas Marner by George Eliot
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James

__20th Century fiction__
Orlando by Virginia Woolf
The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner
Dubliners by James Joyce
The Castle by Franz Kafka
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

And…One from this list (nonfiction):
__History nonfiction__
A Different Mirror by Ronald Takaki
A History of God by Karen Armstrong
Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond
A History of the Wife by Marilyn Yalom
The Cration of Patriarchy by Gerda Lerner
African Philosphy in Seach of Identity by DA Masolo

__Science nonfiction__
Time, Love, Memory by Jonathan Weiner
The Lives of a Cell by Lewis Thomas
Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter
The Dancing wu li Masters Gary Zukav
Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression by Andrew Solomon

Dostoyevsky is hard-core and The Idiot is not his best work (although it’s pretty good, if you ask me). Henry James is a marathon of literature. If you’re into that, go ahead….
I’d suggest Jane Austen, Emily Bronte (they are a delight for lit classes, i know!) or Gustave Flaubert. Virginia Woolf is cool too.

and

Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond
