Okay, at the begining of the week i weighed 140lb – 10 stone (monday) now I weigh 137lb – 9.8 stone. I have been dieting recently and have already lost over 4 stone. So basically I’ve been eating, either an apple or some weetabix for breakfast, either a small roast dinner or a sandwhich for lunch, and for tea eaither some fruit and a yorgurt or some salad and salmon. So is this weightloss unexplained, or expected?
Short answer = Yes, it’s obviously working for you and your losing weight.
Anytime you have a calorie deficit you will lose weight. That simple.
Long Answers = Most likely not the type weight you want to lose….. Which for most people is actual fat tissue.
Things like muscle, fluids, organs, etc all weight something in the body. Understand your body is in constantly breaking down and repairing it’s self. We call everything in the body that isn’t fat LBM(Lean Body Mass). When one is dieting they always lose LBM along with fat tissue(it’s unavoidable).
So how do you know how much fat you lost? Well instead of using a scale you would use a tool called a "caliper" and take your body fat percentage. Now let’s say you weight 200lbs and you had a 20% bodyfat… That would mean you have a total of 180lbs LBM and 40lbs of fat(20% of 200 = 40).
The human body is complex, in a nutshell your body will break down tissues(LBM) and start using the proteins from those tissue to build/repair up other tissues. Some of these proteins will be used for energy(converted to glucose) and others will be used to repair or build tissues such as the muscles, organs, etc.
Fat tissue will also be oxidized(burned) during this dieting process too. So overall, both LBM and fat tissue are lost during dieting. *Note there are tricks to increase the burning of overall fat tissue while sparing LBM but that is beyond the explanation I wish to give and dives really deep in nutrition and physiology.
